Hi! I’m Leonie Engel, an illustrator and production designer based in Berlin, Germany.
I’ve always been fascinated by stories and images, especially imaginative worlds and their inhabitants.
I studied production design at Filmuniversity Babelsberg, where I developed a strong sense for mood, lighting, and world-building. Alongside my studies, I worked on several film projects, including Bibi & Tina – Einfach anders as an illustrator and the adaptation of Walter Moers’ Der Schrecksenmeister (Eisspin, der sehr Schreckliche) as an art director and production designer.
I combine my background in cinematic world-building with illustration to create atmospheric, narrative-driven artworks.
Today, my focus lies mainly in children’s book illustration, but I’m always open to other kinds of projects and visual development. I’ve worked with several german publishers, including Penguin Random House, Carlsen, Oetinger, and many more. Recently, I was honored to illustrate for the official Fourth Wing Night, a collaboration between author Rebecca Yarros and the NBA team Denver Nuggets.
If you’d like to create something together, I’d love to hear from you – whether through the contact form or Instagram.
