Hi! I’m Leonie, an illustrator and production designer with a special focus on children's media.
In 2016, I moved from my hometown of Hanover to Berlin, and I’ve been here ever since.
Ever since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated by stories and images – a passion that still drives me today. My first big dream was to become a traditional animator. Later, I wanted to design fantastic creatures like Dobby the house-elf from Harry Potter and bring them to life. In the end, though, it was the world of production design for film that completely captivated me.
The idea of taking a story from paper to reality and creating worlds where characters come to life immediately inspired me. After finishing school in 2015, I spent nine months in Bristol, England. Back in Germany I gained a lot of experience through various internships in production design. I was then accepted into the Filmuniversity Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, where I completed both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in production design – with a focus on fantasy, science fiction, and children's films.
During my studies, I had the opportunity to work on several children’s film productions, including "Bibi & Tina – Einfach anders" and the youth series "Almania." I’m especially proud of my work on "Eisspin, der sehr Schreckliche," a film adaptation of the first chapters of Walter Moers' “Der Schrecksenmeister”. I worked on this project as an art director and production designer for several years, which deepened my love for great stories even more.
Through my close work with texts, a new and wonderful career path opened up for me: children’s book illustration. This allows me to combine my passion for world-building with my joy in painting. My goal is to create illustrations that are not only cute but also atmospheric and cinematic – images that, through different lighting, evoke a sense of magic.
I love reading authors’ texts and further developing the story through my illustrations. I want to show what hasn’t yet been written – whether in films or children's books.
